I’ve been looking to get a set of disk shelves, as i’m looking to build a local host to replace my soon to be neutered GDrive (currently aiming for economical 80TB, but high performance is not required, as everything except my main rig is 1Gb ethernet)
Aside from the Netapp 4246s that we see all over, are there any 3.5in shelves or chassis that would be effective for this sort of deployment?
I found this HP StoreServ M6720 shelf on ebay for a decent price, and while it looks much like a 4246 netapp, has anyone else been able to get one of these running with Truenas or Unraid with SATA drives?
Side question regarding these shelves, are there some that will be relatively quiet in a rack next to a desk?
