Recommendations for New Gaming Headset

I'm in the market for a new gaming headset.

I currently own a cheap $20 plantronics gamecomm headset and I love it, but want something that has better audio quality.

I recently ordered the razer tiamat 7.1 gaming headset because it had true 7.1 speakers inside but had to return it because the sound quality was disapointingly terrible. The bass never worked and when it did, it was bad, also whenever it would hit higher notes in music the speakers would make a crunching noise.

I have an Asus Xonar DX sound card

So here's what I am looking for:

Stero headphones (no 5.1 or 7.1, seems too complicated and robs audio quality)

Amazing audio quality an audiophile would love

Mic, quality doesn't matter

Something that doesn't exceed $140

Perferibly over ear cup, and comfortable in long gaming sessions

Any suggestions? I will look into a 5.1 or 7.1 if posted if the audio quality is amazing

why not stay with plantonics and go for the g780

I suggest getting whichever of these covers your needs the most.

audio technica ATH-M50's with a zalman clip on mic. amazon should have both.

Hmmmm.... so far the g780's are looking like the best upgrade option for me. Good price and sound quality.

Any more recommendations are appreciated

Scratch that, did some more research. The g780's quality is no difference than the one I have now so there wouldn't be a point.

I need something with stero ONLY that has amazing sound quality and an overear headphone cup.

Does anyone know of any headset comparison charts on audio quality?

The ATH-M50 + Zalman mic is a good suggestion. You can't make charts on sound quality, only frequency response which doesn't tell the whole story.
