Anyone have any reccomendations for a high-ish performace laptop with a good discrete gpu, at least 8 gb of RAM, and a hard drive (maybe also an SSD)? Budget $1500. Nice asthetics prefered. I'm probably asking too much, but any help is appreciated.
I would get the MSI GE60 since its lighter than most gaming laptops. No gaming laptop will have 5 hours of battery life. There are a couple things that should be edited on this laptop.
Lenovo Ideapad y500? I saw it on sale at newegg for $859 with the coupon. It sports 2 nvidia cards. Seems like a decent deal but I want to see if anyone rags on it. Anything less than a Thinkpad might not be such a great idea. Still, it's sorta tied in with IBM and IBM invents stuff. At that price you have cash left over to max the ram and get another ssd.
I would actually look around and see if a company like ASUS (or others) would have something like barebones but with the motherboards, bluetooth and whatever else needed except for harddrive, processor and ram since most of the times i've found them cheaper to buy myself than buying them with the laptops. They used to sell things like that, but don't know if they still do nowadays. Ofcourse, it might take a long time to find (even days) but it might be worth it since you customize however you want it with probably a cheaper price depending on your local sellers.
Ofcourse... If I could, I would build my own laptop since they add a lot of crap you don't need in them. I don't need three USB 3.0 and one 2.0, would only need two 3.0 and the rest could be removed for power saving, but no. Could easily fit a real graphics card in this laptop but there is no PCI-Express port.
The y500 second gtx 650m is removable and takes up the 5.25 bay, but because of this process they added a very large amount of microstutter when using sli.
Damn, used to be able to buy barebone with a motherboard inside and then just add whatever works to it. Guess that's gone since everything is so damn integrated etc nowadays.
