Hi guys! I was wondering if it is possible to rearrange files on a HDD. Because i have like 70gb free of 250 but I can't defrag files larger than 2.7gb. And thats beacause the HDD free-space is physically scattered all over the drive in clusters between the files. So I was thinking if it was possible to fill out the gaps between the files and get the freespace and the files separated?
Do you have a CD/DVD burner? (dumb question, I know) Because if you do, I would download a Ubuntu live CD and use the defrag tool on it, it should work if you turn off windows page file before rebooting the PC and starting the defrag, as a pagefile can take up a 2-4 GB chunk of your hard drive depending on how much ram you have, that should give you the ability to defragment.
To turn off the page file, right click my computer and click properties>then click advance system settings>>click advance> click change, and then disable auto manage, and set all drives to no page file, then click set, and reboot your PC with the unbuntu CD, in the system tools menu of ubuntu (should not be hard to find) you should find a disc defragmenter (this was in older versions of the live CD, if not, it try an older disc.
