RE: Gaming on Linux passthrough

So, i have loved Linux for years but have always been limited because of drivers etc, now i wanted to take the gpu passthrough approach in the past however its costly, but then i thought, would it be possible to run Linux via onboard graphics? Then run a VM with Windows using GPU pass through.

Would this not be wise? is there con in this?

If it is an Intel iGPU, then you should have no issues with a win 8 or 10 VM using OVMF. WIn7 VM and below probably would need a i915 vga arbiter patched kernel since they can’t use OVMF.

If it is an AMD iGPU, then I don’t know although you should be ok.

Theoretically yes, but Raven Ridge on Linux is currently sketchy at best.

It works fine, it costs nothing extra if you have an igpu, and like 35 bucks for a gt 710 if you don’t.

we have a wiki on this here:
