Rapid FPS drops after new CPU (bottleneck or error?)

Specs:

Gainward GTX 680 (max temps 70c)

AMD FX 9370 - 4.2GHz 8 core   w/ H70 cooler (max temps 65/70c)

M5A97 LE R2.0

Corsair GS800 (800 watt)

16GB Ram, 1600MHz, HyperX.

NOTE: I have updated graphics card driver. no change.

So after installing a new CPU, my pc has been acting weirdely.

Got the new CPU, tested it on BF4 ultra settings.

Between 40-70 FPS depending on location/action/explosions etc.

And then it sometimes just suddenly drops to 10/20 for a few seconds. (Also happens in other games, so far tried The Forest, KSP, and Titanfall)

So now, it ain't the temps. And the CPU goes max 80/90% usage when playing.

RAM max 10GB. (i know its high, i have a lot of background programs)

Can't tell GPU. Thats the problem. I used GPU-Z, but its weird, since it changes when i tabs, even if im in windowed.

Any ideas?

Forgot, running Win7

Problem is that your CPU is probably throttling, your motherboard has not heatsinks on the VRM meaning that the VRMs are most likely overheating and cause it to throttle. I would recommend upgrading your motherboard ASAP to something like a M5A99X EVO or you can try to under clock your CPU so it doesn't pull so much power. Also 65°C is way too hot for an FX CPU, the max safe temps for the FX line is 61°C so you need a better CPU cooler as well

Your cpu is running at 65-70c, way to high for an amd cpu.

My MB is about 42c, good or bad? (42 when playing)

Also, i cant afford a new MB...

42°C for the motherboard is really hot, you might need to look into after market heatsinks as a temporary fix until you get a new properly heatsinked motherboard, you will also need to underclock/undervolt your CPU to bring your temps down. You are running too hot

Okay, here's what i think:

Will buy an aftermarket case cooler or two (currently i only have one, crazy i know)

Undust PC.

Underclock CPU to 4.3GHz

That should work but remember to try to bring you core voltage down as much as possible while keeping everything stable and keeping the speed you want. The lower the core voltage the cooler things will be.

Why did you buy the FX-9370...That's your problem.  You're running a REALLY demanding CPU with a motherboard that can't handle it properly.  I definitely recommend either something along the lines of a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3/ ASUS M599FX EVO/PRO.  970 chipset can't handle that kind of clock speeds so its running on overtime.  Also, the CPU cooler is in question.  To run at those clock speeds you're going to need to do an upgrade as well on the cooler.  That H70 is horrible performance, you literally got bottom of the barrel AIO liquid cooling.  I definitely suggest if you wanna stay AIO to at least get an H100i or higher.  If you're going air cooled, the Noctua NH-D14/15.  I think you should've read up on the CPU specs a little more.  AMD during the beginning of their marketing for the FX-9xxx they were saying that you MUST buy the CPU with one of their selected motherboards to even purchase the CPU.  Hopefully that helps a bit.

Switch back to your old processor or get a new motherboard. You need to be underclocking that processor to Fx 6300 voltages or not use it at all. Your motherboard isn't capable of running a 8350 stably, no where near a 9370.

Trash mobo with no vrm heatsinks with only a 4+2 phase for a 8 core and your cpu is too hot take your pick.

surprised you haven't cooked your mobo yet...

High-end cpu, crap motherboard, crap cpu cooler...you build isn't balenced for what it is.

upgrade to a better motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 will be good...

to cool it, get either a noctua NH-D14, or Kraken x60...depends what your case can handle...the Corsair coolers aren't very good.

Fully agree with you, that MoBo can't handle a FX9370 at load without the VRM overheating.

Agreed on the mobo aswell, and he needs to buy a better CPU cooler

if you coudln't afford a new motherboard, why did you get such an expensive cpu?

M5A97 LE R2.0

That's your problem.

What was your old CPU?

are the temps from the asus ai suit?

if they are they ae totally normal, cause it is reading the socket temperature not the core temp.

install core temp and read its temperatures. if they are below 61° you are good.

but i agree on the mobo thing.

Wait , is 61°c really the max temp for fx cpu ? or is it a delta 61°c ?

My friend has his 8320 hitting 73°c and I said it was fine because my 3570 was hitting 70°c under load and it said max 90°C .

But he has a good motherboard and I undervolted and overclocked his cpu a bit.

did it not catched fire yet?
