[Rant] Windows DPI scaling

So I thought I should write this, I own a 4k 27" display, now ofc its a little small on 100% scaling, so I like to use 125%.

now if you have ever used windows DPI scaling, it will make it larger, but turns the windows into a horrible ailised blurry mess. So naturally I leave the Windows components scaled, but disable it for ever application manually via compatability tab.

in doing this I discovered something VERY odd. when you disable it per app, the applications are still scaled, but they don't have the horrible blurring or aliasing!!!!! They scale properly like you would expect the OS to do it.

Now not all programs work with this method, steam for example will revert back to its 100% size, but you can scale it manually with a custom skin with large fonts, some games (Dota2) will have a few other issues you will want to fix manually (I can post my fixes if anyone is interested)

but this begs the question, why the fuck did Microsoft ruin the scaling intentionally? I have proven that it can be scaled properly using the built in DPI scaler, why did they do this, its very puzzling.

They've only recently started considering windows for high ppi devices

I take it you're mostly just doing gaming though?

no, I enjoy having a pixel dense display, makes text crisp as hell.

but its puzzling, that in order to get things to scale properly, you have to enable scaling then "disable it" on a per app basis which just turns off the awful blurring/aliasing

but gaming on this thing is fucking amazing how ever, if my GPU isn't crying in pain.

Eh for text sharpness at least for me.

wait what display do you have? did you buy it recently?

You could try here I guess

LG 27MU67, got it for $400 US new, 99% SRGB, its an amazing display.

and that is what I'm doing pretty much. Its really fucking weird what MS has done. it makes no sense no mater how you look at it.

They don't know what they're doing yet, and windows has to support a lot of legacy stuff too might be part of it.

I take it you're going to upgrade to polaris then? that display should have free-sync.

yes sir, waiting to drop 1k on the best AMD GPU I can get my hands on when they drop em.

currently using a 970, dropping a couple of games down to 1080p so they run.

Could always list it for trade for a 390 or something for the time being, it'll have more performance at 4k anyways

the extra performance wont make the demanding games more playable, I would also be loosing money, it hasn't been an issue to me for now since I've been doing school mostly, and I will likely be working my dick off in the summer to earn money.
