Random Shutdown and Reboot

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but I will see. I think it is a Windows issue but I am not sure. Backstory, Tuesday night I was just playing some TF2 with a friend and my system randomly crash(powered off and restarted on its own). It does not happen but once every year or so for me so I just let it reboot. Upon rebooting, it came up with the bios splash screen but hung there. I tried to enter the bios but it would not, rebooted again manually and it was the same. Pulled out my notebook to ask someone something and in the 5 mins I had it out it went into the bios finally. I checked everything and it looked good except my SSD was not listed as anywhere and could not be added to the boot drive. Odd since the first screen that flashes shows the boot drive as my SSD before the bios splash screen. I spent about 3 hours dicking around with it and finally got it to work by removing all the drives and booting that way which worked fine. I would randomly get a windows error and I had my old boot drive in there so I unplugged it all from the mobo and only the SSD, booted no problem. I started to plug in one drive at a time until I got to my old boot drive(using it for a cache drive) and it would not boot so I unplugged it and called it a day. System would work fine with no issues all day at work(I work from home so my computer is mandantory) and I was out so I did not game or anything on it Wednesday. Thursday I gamed a bit and about 30 mins in it crashed like it did before but this time I would fully boot with no issues other then saying windows had not quit unexpectedly(the reboot is the same as pushing the reset button on my computer). Did not think anything of it and just called it a night and did some work and went to bed. Last night I could not get almost any games to run. TF2 and minecraft where the 2 biggest when I just booted them to test to see if they would crash or not. I uninstalled and reinstalled TF2 on a different drive but same thing, random reboots. I have done a bunch of things but still am not sure if it is a mobo, power supply or ssd/windows issue. Below is what I have done so far.

  • Disabled all overclocking, I never overclocked this system but the mobo has some built in tools that to it in the background so I disabled them all.
  • Ran both bios memory test and windows memory tests and it passed without any issues, I also pulled each stick out one at a time to see if it was maybe a ram slot issue and replaced them with a full set of ram from a working system in different combinations.
  • Flashed bios to an older version and reset it multiple times.
  • Right after shutdown temped all items on the board. My system is on a desk next to mine so I pulled off the side panel and since it was hot out(95F in my room) I figured it might be heat related. All temps under 120F.
  • Tried installing applications on a different drive then the boot SSD, still restarts.
  • Replaced all the cables I can(power supply is modular so I replaced all the cable that I can) and all sata cables.
  • Updated everything
  • Reseated the GPU in PCI slot.
  • Ran a game and watched the power supply voltages in real time and nothing dropped or anything before restart.
  • Ran Prime95 for about an hour with CPU at full load and it never got above 140F. GPU also never got above 50c during testing or gaming.

I have done a lot short of clean install windows and replace the mobo. I am not sure where else to look as it is rather annoying and I am afraid it will bleed over and interfere with my work.

System Specs:
Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise
AMD 8320 @3.51ghz stock clock
Asus Sabertooth 990FX Revision 1
12gb G-Skull 1600mhz Memory (3x4gb dimms)
MSI 7870 GPU
Corsair HX750 Power supply
Samsung 240gb 840 Evo SSD
2x 500gb Seagate Baracuda/ WD Green(one each)

The system ran fun until that random crash and now it is just not able to do a lot of things. What is weird is it is only while gaming. TF2 and minecraft are super low overhead games, using less then 20% of any resource(CPU, GPU, Ram) but games like Serious Sam TFE HD will max out my GPU and take up about 50% of my 8 core CPU. I tried a few different games and so far, only TF2 and Minecraft will crash my system. Everything else is working fine and with no issues. I get anywhere from 10 mins to 1 hour in either until it crashes. I would like a fix for them but mostly because I am worried it will start to bleed over.

Hopefully making this small bible post will help by giving as much information as I can. Any help would be appreciated. I was thinking of going down and picking up a new SSD today and doing a clean install of windows on it but I am not sure that will solve it.

Edit

I just ran Valley and first time running it crashed, second time after reboot was fine. One of my coworkers had a similar issue and he recommended replacing the GPU. I am going to go pick up one shortly and test it, I also asked a friend to borrow his AX 1000wt power supply to test it if the GPU does not fix it.

Edit 2

Got a R9 380 today and it is working perfect so far. Looks like a GPU had died. Time to pack it up and send it to MSI to see if they can repair it since it is under warranty.

What are the details in event viewer?

Nothing, no errors, just ends then starts back up again once it reboots.

Run diskchk and a memtest86 and see if that reveals anything. Weird that Serious Sam would work, but not TF2.

Ran both, nothing found. I have been monkeying with it all morning that valley crashed once but has not in the last 2 runs. I am going to head out now and go pick up a new GPU to give it a try. A friend had a similar issue with TF2 for him and it was a bad GPU so I will pick it up to test. If it works I will keep it, if not, I will return it and get something else to try. Should have the power supply later today also to try.

Well, new GPU made it stable for a bit longer, 3-4 hours before a crash. I noticed that it crashed when overclocking a lot faster(990mhz stock speed to even 1ghz on the gpu) but i removed it and it still power cycles. I am thinking it is a power supply but I honestly dont know. If anyone has any ideas let me know. I have tried to be very though with everything and I am just out of ideas.
