Did a rebuild on my main rig. Kept my Lian Li case.
9950x (software dev)
64 gig 6400 DDR5 Corsair Memory
MSI X870E MoBo
New 2TB Corsair MP700
Obviously had to live with my 3080 Super.
Notes:
- Good lord the pins are fragile in AM5. I know I’ve seen and heard all the reports but if you look at em wrong…
- I went with a Thermalright contact frame. Not necessary but quality of life in installing and not having to fiddle as much with paste - worth it.
- I replaced my corsair fans with Noctua. Again, you read the hype, but shhhiiiiiittttt those things run nice.
- Took like 20 min to train the memory the first time - if I hadn’t had to go through that on my 5900 build - probably would have freaked me out - also having a 2 digit display and able to look up “training memory” also helps.
- Had to buy a USB3.1 GEN2 Type-E to Type-E Extension Cable Internal USB 3.1 E Type Male to Female Cable because the CPU with the new latch wouldn’t let it fit with the front usb in the case. If you didn’t have to work around issues - what fun would it be?
I just need a graphics card to drive 2 240 hz monitors, but like everyone else - it’s bullcrap.
Dual boot Debian and Win11. Compile times rock. All in all, very happy with the bus speeds / memory speeds of the AM5 - now just have to be able to take adv of pci5.
