Random hangups with Chrome (Brave) on Linux with Nvidia

I’ve got an annoying problem with random freezes. Can someone please help?

While watching video in Brave browser (based on Chrome) on my Pop!_OS 19.10 with Nvidia 2070 Super, it freezes. The video hangs, sound continues, otherwise not usable. I tried to get into terminal to rescue something, but no luck. Unplugged keyboard and mouse, no luck. So I can only hard-reset the machine.

In the Kernel log you can see “segfault” in Brave:

I have been looking around for more information on what seems to be like a related issue as well.

There’s another thread on this forum that also didn’t seem to get many responses.

I have been using Manjaro Gnome on my Sky X7C laptop, and from time to time the browser (I’ve replicated this with both firefox and chromium) would freeze and the CPU temps would sore up to 65-75 degrees. It lasts from anywhere between 5 - 30 seconds.

Mostly it’s the browser that’s unresponsive, and the rest of the DE responds okay. Killing the browser immediately brings the CPU temps down to normal. The only relevant log entry that I was able to link to this issue says that a certain core had a soft freeze for x number of seconds.

Lately, I am also noticing that some youtube videos would stutter while playing without causing a complete freeze.

Gnome bug?

Any of you tried other DE?

Yeah… I’ve tried Manjaro XFCE. Happens there as well. It’s almost inevitably linked with the browsers, as no other software seems to do this.
