Hello
Had an issue where my pc hung coming out of sleep mode a couple of weeks ago, and after forcibly rebooting the PC it started hanging constantly, before I could get logged in and make it to the error log. I figured a driver had gotten corrupted or something, and just re-installed windows. No dice.
Unfortunately, I didn’t really have the time to deal with anything intricate, given school, so I set it aside until the latest batch of papers and tests where done.
Coming back to it now, I’ve switched out the low effort parts, like the memory and installation drive, but I’m still not having any luck. My guess is that the power source and graphics are fine, given that they’ve been working for months , but I’ll at least switch the graphics out when I get home to check it out.
The only sort of improvement I can think of is that having 4 RAM stick in, instead of 8, seems to allow the PC to go a little longer before freezing. Long enough that I can tell you that there’s no errors getting logged, other than the PC being shut down improperly every time I’m forced to power cycle it
Is there a way to effectively test the CPU or motherboard short of buying replacement parts and hoping something works? Is this pattern of behavior more frequently caused by one part then the other? Kind of hoping I can at least get an idea of the best place to start, because I have no idea how to diagnose a problem like this without resorting to a bucket of space parts.
