Rampage V or X99 ? for Gaming pc

Im currently in the process of planning my build for a gaming rig.

i want the latest tek so it will last a few years and the possibility to upgrade it

ASUS Rampage V Extreme Motherboard     or     ASUS X99 Deluxe Motherboard

which board is better for gaming and will support high end spec?

is it worth the money?

also is DDR4 worth waiting for or any good?

I wouldn't even consider going X99 right about now. you are going to be spending about a 1000+ dollars just to get a motherboard, CPU and RAM. and there are rumors already of the ASUS Maximus V Rampage X99 price being close to 500 bucks. Not worth it. you are better off being up to date on the X97 Platform. when Broadwell comes.

Are the maximus range any good? i want a motherboard with many slots so i can just add components when i want,  is DDR4 worth it?

ASUS's Maximus series of boards are arguably the best on the market. right now DDD4 is not worth investing into about now, its expensive and the motherboards are expensive. with the money you spend on investing into X99 you could get a good Gaming PC for about 1200 bucks,

i dont want good i want the the best

read my post if you could and reply which do you think is best.. thanks

You can get the best, especially with 1500 dollars or 3000 dollars, without investing in X99, there is next to no benefit unless you render, video edit or are a developer.

if you were to invest into X99 and go balls to the wall you'd be spending about 3000+ plus dollars just to get onto a platform. and from the post i read even more money considering you want a monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Consider this for example is a High End Theoretical X99 Build

  • The 5960X i believe which is the Haswell-E 8 Core clocked at 3.0GHZ unlocked. 1000$
  • ASUS Rampage 5 ATX rumored to $500 which is most likely legit cause its a new platform and its ASUS's HIgh End Top of the Line Board.
  • DDD4 RAM, Prices are in fluctuation rumors say $300 some say $500
  • You want a High End GPU like a 780ti, Titan makes no sense what so ever. $720 cause titan and 780ti perform exactly the same.
  • 850w PSU depending on whatever you get about $150
  • a Case this Varies
  • a Good Gaming Keyboard ranges from 150 to 200 bucks, lets say around $180
  • a Gaming Mouse about 80 bucks
  • You want the absolute best so i'm assuming you've looked into G-Sync $800

Thats $3750+ roughly excluding a Case. and without a Cooler cause none have come out for it yet.

ALL THIS to game makes absolutely NO sense what so ever for ANY gamer. now for a Video Editor, Renderer or Developer, who games on the side this would make a bit more sense, but for a Straight Gamer hell no.

However it's your money and you can do what you wish. you can get the absolute best without investing in X99. this just being an example theoretical build if i had all money like this as pocket change.

Ok fair enough, what would you recommend as a good gaming build that can play games on ultra with fast speeds that will last.  ( i like intel)   preferablably with the i74790k and and 780ti

Can't really say which is better until the boards are actually released; it should be sometime today. I'm looking forwards to Logan's reviews of these boards which I assume they did last week when JJ was there.

I'm personally looking towards the X99 Deluxe, as I think the ROG boards can be a bit gimmicky. I think ASUS' highest end board is the X99 WS, but it's pretty pricey.
