Hello, I want to upgrade my Thinkpad T470 RAM, mine came with 1 stick DDR4 16gb-2400. Now I’m considering adding 8gb DDR4-3200, the reason I’m going with this one is that it’s easier to find locally, but I’m not sure if it will work with no issues.
I also managed to find the exact ram as the one I have DDR4 16gb-2400, but I have to get it online. Should get the same exact one and match it with the one already installed, or it doesn’t matter?
Any DDR4 Sodimm kit running on jedec speeds should work.
It might be a bit cranky with new high density chips. If you can get a 2666Mhz module you’d be a bit more.
Just remember that all RAM will be clocked to the slowest speed you got, e.g. paying for more speed than 2400 MHz is just money down the drain (unless you get the 3200 MHz cheaper than the 2400 MHz, of course).
Otherwise, I would invest in another 16 GB stick instead of an 8 GB, but your budget and use case!
Thank you, I will pick up 2666 since it’s the closest one that I can find for my model.
Yes, I found that 2666 Mhz and 3200 Mhz are cheaper than 2400 Mhz, so I will go with the 2666 Mhz.
I have done the update but for some reason, my ram speed is lower now (2133 Mhz) even though I checked both rams and they match in speed both (2666 Mhz). any ideas?
