Well I have been looking at the prices of video cards etc… 2400 for my gtx1070 now… so no way I am paying that… That being said, apparently ram shortages are happening or will be, and I am wondering… Should I buy another set of Flarex ddr4 3200 cl14 ram it is currently 299 canadian, but I am thinking it will go up again. I currently have an ASRock x370 taichi with ryzen 7 1700, and 2x8 of flarex ddr4 3200 cl14 ram. Is it worth it? Ram will go up… and will 4 sticks of ram be an issue on this board?
Do you need it? If you really need it - yes, it’s worth it. If you want it, but you don’t need it - no, it’s not worth it.
If you’re not hitting your swap don’t bother. I just picked up 16GB of DDR3 for $150 Canadian and even though it is twice as expensive as it used to be it was worth it to save my system from choking up. If you want to “future proof” just wait until the prices drop. I’ll be waiting right with you waiting for GPU prices to drop before I replace my aged card.
16GB is more than plenty. I have 32GB and rarely use more than 5GB under regular Linux desktop usage and 8GB under Windows10 with games. I was also thinking about getting another set (I HAVE to populate all my RAM slots man), but with prices right now and my actual RAM usage I just find it really hard to justify. I would rather get a bigger SATA SSD, or just try out a NVMe drive.
This is exactly what I would have said. Well done.
