Hey guys, I am having some RAM issues. It is on an old desktop that I have repurposed as a Proxmox hypervisor. The motherboard is an Asus Tuf Mark 2 Z270 with an i7 7700k in it. Seen here https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-TUF-Z270-LGA1151-Motherboard/dp/B01MQTDBOO?th=1
I had some generic 2x8GB sticks running in it for years with no issue but recently upgraded to CT2K16G4DFRA32A seen here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C4LXXCJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
These are listed as supported on the Qualified Vendor List from the manufacturer of the RAM but not the Motherboard and I had a world of trouble getting them to boot. I tried pressing the MemOK button multiple times and the system wouldn’t get itself into a working state. I finally just did the BIOS reset jumper and this finally got it to post but stability is terrible. The only setting I have changed in UEFI are VT-X, VT-D, and set the memory speed to 2933 MHz since 3200 wasn’t booting at all. I have also tried auto. I have also tried both 2 and 4 stick configurations. While using memory demanding workloads like Security Onion or even just backing up a VM to a NFS share the whole machine will crash and reboot. This also happens under light or no workloads just after a longer period of time. Should I change the voltage on it or change something in XMP? I have never really understood RAM overclocking.
So I returned the RAM listed above and instead bought a 4x16 pack from a reputable brand (Corsair) that was on the Motherboard’s QVL and ended up with this
Corsair CMK64GX4M4A2666C16 Vengeance LPX 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 2666 C16 Desktop…

These booted immediately but have the same stability issues as the last 64GB kit. I have put the old 2x8 set back in and confirmed it is not an issue with the slots. There must be a setting I can change for XMP or something to get this thing stable. Hopefully someone who knows more about RAM can offer some suggestions.
