Ram speeds + gaming

A while back, like a month or so, I say a report that stated that faster ram will give more fps in new games. Anyone know where I can find this article? Trying to decide how much ram and how fast I need for a gaming rig.

You only want something like 2400mhz memory if you're gaming on an APU

Otherwise you'd just want whatever RAM is cheapest.

Also getting a Dual Channel Kit, doesn't really matter for gaming in the slightest either.

The report was showing almost 10-15% increase going from 1600 to 2400 on skylake and 980s

well from 2133 to 28??

No. IDK what you heard but it was wrong. RAM speed makes almost no difference unless you're using an APU.
Just buy whatever is cheapest.

You can use single channel memory for gaming and it won't matter, actually getting .5 more fps compared to dual channel, which is twice as fast

With a dedicated graphics card, I found upgrading my RAM speed to be the most disappointing upgrade I'd ever done. While I'm sure the occasional benchmark may have a better result, end user experience was identical.

Not true.

Here's the article - http://pclab.pl/art65002-4.html

Maybe it's something to do with skylake then, because most other tests on the internet show no real change going from even 800mhz to 2400mhz

Skylake seems to gain something from fast RAM, though spending the money on other components is still going to do a lot more

Well I found this, which shows about a 5fps gain in metro 2033 with really fast DDR4 memory

That's how I've known RAM speeds to effect game performance too. Pretty much no difference.

That article was the only one that I've read with those kind of gains, and after skimming through the Legit Review article you linked I'm starting to think the article I shared is skewed.
