can the RAM be faster than what the motherboard says? I have a motherboard that supports DDR3 1333+ (O.C.)/1066. Does that mean it supports speeds higher than 1333 If i overclock it? The only ram I can find is 1600.
The motherboard decides the speed and will likely take it down to 1333 at default settings. Most any RAM module can run at lower clock speeds just fine.
1333 (OC) means that speed RAM will run at that speed if you overclock the CPU not the RAM.
Most ram will run slower than its advertised speed no problem. Its easy to go slower harder to go faster.
It's not only dependent on your motherboard but, also your processor; from the sounds of things I would guess you have an Intel 775 chip-set running DDR3 Dram. If so, for the most part they won't run higher then 1333 however, a 1600 or higher rated Dim (really any Dim) can be under-clocked to run at a lower bandwidth and, if you spend the time to tighten timings you can achieve the same (or close) performance of the faster bandwidth ram. I would be careful what you buy, if you are still using a 775 motherboard they have compatibility problems with most of the newer DDR3 ram. Just do your research! Anyway, if you could tell us what motherboard and what processor you have we can direct you better!
There was a bundle deal to get a FX-6350 and a 78LMT-USB3 Motherboard.
