RAM Quesiton

I was looking at 2133mhz RAM ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231468&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= )

I like Gskill but I noticed that the Latency is 11. Is this too high? I know logan said with a gaming rig it doesn't matter all that much, but I don't know if that is too high. Should I drop down to 1866mhz sticks with a latency of 9?

Unless you plan on doing a lot of rendering, no, don't lower frequency for CAS latency. For gaming, mHz is more important than CAS. If you buy 1866, it won't perform as well in a year or two, compared to the 2133. I recommend getting 2400mHz memory so that you can practically skip DDR4 without compromising performance. I have 16GB(2x8GB) of G.SKILL Trident X DDR3 2400 in my build. Using XMP, I get a noticable difference in performance from my i7 3770k (don't worry about the 1.5V recommended memory voltage max. - it works fine). For $20 more, you are getting higher quality memory at a higher frequency with lower CAS. It is better all around - hope I helped!

Ill check that RAM out. How tall are they? I'm getting the noctua d14 just want to make sure it will clear

I had 8Gb of CL8 RAM, then when i wanted to upgrade i purchased 8GB of CL9 RAM. as an experiment i chose to swap out 8gb cl8 for 8gb cl9 to see and i can tell you now that between the two there is ZERO real world difference.

I now run with 16GB at CL9 and its totally fine. i would think that your CL11 memory at that speed would be the same as CL9 stuff in 99.999999% of the things you do.

hope that helps.

They are very tall, but have removable heat sinks (the red fins on top). I wouldn't recommend the Noctua D14 - I have the Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU cooler. It is larger than the Noctua, a bit cheaper, and performs better. It comes in lots of colors, as well, so you can color-coordinate your build. I have my 2 8GB sticks on the 2 farthest slots on my motherboard (the Asus Maximus V Formula) and they fit with the heatsink fins. I was worried about clearance, so I emailed G.SKILL about it. They told me that the Trident X, after removing the heatsink fins, would be shorter than the Ripjaws X. I know the Ripjaws X fits with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE with all 4 sticks (proof: http://i.imgur.com/6ddej.jpg and the email from G.SKILL: http://i.imgur.com/ejqgWdA.png ). I highly recommend both the Trident X memory and the Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler.

Just saw on their website that you have to remove the heat sinks :/   I'll probably go with the ripjaw set because it will fit and I have used it before. I'll cheak out that heatsink though. Thanks much.

Thanks for the reply. Will probably pick up that RAM today.
