Ram problem (first time builder)

Hello, I'm having a problem with the ram in my rig. I have the asus m5a99fx motherboard and I'm using hyperx fury black ram for it (2x4). I thought I installed the ram correctly but I'm getting a constant red light and in the manual it says it should't be light on and if it is its a problem. Either I didn't install my ram right or it isn't compatible. Anyone who has ever had this problem with this motherboard, how did you fix this problem? Would very much appreciate it.

Take out the new ram and install old ram and go to your bios make sure the ram timings, voltage, and speed are at default settings or reset your entire bios if you know your settings. Things like voltage and frequency can be modified in the bios and locked causing new ram to not function with different speeds and voltages.

shutdown pc install ram restart post results.

I don't have any old ram

what exact ram do you have whats the model number and specs

hyperx fury black 8gb (2x4) ddr3

full specs speed cl rating voltage everything

Make sure its in the 1,2 slots and not the 1,3 slots

speed: ddr3 1600 voltage: 1.5v
Unbuffered
cas latency 10

I thought most people do that for duel channel ?

OK, so your new computer doesn't POST (Power On Self Test)? Bummer. O

Quick and easy troubleshooting:

Take out the RAM. Check motherboard documentation and make sure you know which slot is 1, 2, 3, 4. Get a known good stick of RAM , then turn the computer off, unplug the power supply, hold the power button down for 10 seconds to drain any voltage from the motherboard, put one stick of the good RAM into slot one, then try and boot the computer to BIOS with just that ONE stick of good RAM in the first slot. Keep switching out RAM until you can get it to POST. If it won't POST it's the motherboard.

Your Motherboard supports:

4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture

Troubleshooting Boot Failure:

Looks like your memory is on the QVL, so it's not a compatibility issue.

thanks for the info, very much appreciated :D Unfortunately my gtx970 came doa :/ got to wait until I get my new one. I don't have integrated graphics either. But after i go to the bios and install windows with one of my ram sticks, can I then add my other one immediately as soon as windows is installed and I get the drivers I need ?

As with all troubleshooting, you isolate the component failure and then diagnose, so if you can POST with one stick of RAM swap it out and make sure they both work, then put them in proper dual channel slots and test, then install winblows.

ok great now work with one stick find slot labeled 0 or 1 if there is no 0 stick one in and boot.

thanks for the info, once I get graphics card i'll try this. Thanks :D

Just reply once your gpu comes and ill know to help you more.

will do. thanks

Got my 970, the ram problem is no longer an issue and the rig runs :D But i'm having a bad time installing windows 7. I'm trying to install it thru usb and its in the "installing windows" process but after its complete, it will load up saying "window is loading files" and go back to the installing windows process. wth ?

Dam i almost need that blown up to 2x3' and tacked to my door, thanks for the find

It is normal for it to restart several times, but it seems like your having an issue completing the installation . You may want to boot into repair mode, open a CMDPrompt and use diskpart to clean the drive and manually build the partition table. Then reburn your ISO to your USB just in case. Now follow a step by step guide from technet through the installation. If it still fails at the same point, let me know. Where did you get your ISO? Is this a new HDD?
