i ve seen some people with a RAM fan installed in their system
to OC the RAM for better peformance.
is it a good idea to OC RAM?
will i get higher fram rates in game if i OC lets say 1600 to 1866 or 2033?
and can the MOBO read RAM higher than it says on stock? (example MOBO max memeory support to be installed 1866)
I am wondering the same, I know it's possible to overclock GPU memory but never knew if you could do the same with regular memory. I don't see why this wouldn't work tho.
Also I highly doubt you'd need a fan to cool the memory, especially since I read something about memory lifetime actually increasing as it gets hotter.
Edit: google seems to have a pretty clear answer: http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/upgrades/how-to-overclock-your-ram-1030286
Yes, OCing memory is very possible and actually done quite often. People buy Samsung RAM for that very reason; people considtently hit 2133mHZ, even though the memory ships 1600mHz, CL11. Just mess around in the BIOS with frequency, then adjust voltages and timings slightly if it isn't stable.
id consider on doing that but is it worth the trouble?
From what I have heard you probably won't notice it because in most systems the ram speeds aren't the bottleneck but if it is the bottleneck it will slightly speed up your system I suppose.
