Ram latency vs speed decision for overclocking?

howdy guys. Long time listener, first time caller. I have a new build that I’m putting together, as my current pc is pretty old. In my quest I have a few paths that lie before me…

1.) go with RAM (corsair LPX) that is 3600mhz speed, with 18-22-22-42 timings and then try to get the timings down.

2.) go with RAM (corsair LPX) that is 3200mhz speed, with 16-18-18-36 timings and try to boost the speed, as well as minor timing changes.

3.) try my luck with RAM that I’m not sure will fit, will 100% need aftermarket or custom heatsinks, but will run at 3600mhz with 14-14-14-34 timings. (g skill DC ram, the modules are almost 47mm tall themselves before the silly rgb heatsink (which adds like 12mm), which is my maximum height, so custom heatsinks would be needed)

Any advice would be great.

Motherboard is an asus x570 i strix.
case is an NFC skyreach 4 mini, so ram height is maxed at 47mm
looking for 32gb dimms, for 64gb total.

thank you for your time. -Justin

The short answer is it doesn’t make much of a difference, unless you’re constantly encoding in winrar.
