RAM issue/question

Hello everyone.

I am planning to build a basic computer with AMD FX 4100 and Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P Socket AM3+ 760G mATX AMD Mo

The motherboard supports upto 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.

So I was wondering what will happen if I put 1600 MHz or speedier on this motherboard?

Wiil it crash and/or burn?

I know it is a waste of money but later on, I plan to pass the build to my parents and take some RAM from this build to use it in my build.

Thanks.

Post your proposed system, state its uses, and budget. Let's get the build right, before you build it. Eliminate some of these issues. Sometimes you can reallocate funds to save yourself a few headaches.

From what I have heard it will only downclock to 1333mhz, but I would not take any risks.

This is my first ever build and I don't want to waste a lot of money if i mess something up.

Case is corsair carbide 200R

Power Supply is Corsair CX430M

Motherboard and CPU are from Microcenter.

RAM - Undecided

I am salvaging Hard Drive from my old computer.

Not a lot of budget ($200-ish)

No budget for the video card right now but I am willing to wait for some shellshocker deals

on NewEgg for a low-end video card.

I want this computer for general use only.(No gaming or video editing)

Ok. If you do not have any particularly demanding uses, you'll have no issues.

You just want the PC to run. The RAM will downclock to 1333.

I am going to play safe and get 2 X 2GB 1333 MHz RAM.

Thanks for the replies and I will update when the build finishes and post the results.

(May be next week)

Nice, dude. You should save a little money with 1333.

A cheap 30GB SSD boot drive might make for a neat upgrade, when you pass it on to your parents.

Yeah. I agree.

Which cpu you gonne use?

I am going to use AMD FX-4100

okay, make sure that the motherboard you buying that 780 chipset is FX ready.

How do I find that out?

I am going to buy Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P Socket AM3+ 760G mATX AMD Mo

Thanks.

I think it has AMD 760G chipset

It will be ok. It's AM3+, fortunately.

Yes. It should be fine and if I encounter any problems I know where to go.
