Ram clock speed on asrock z77

Hey Im using asrock z77 extreme 4 + 16 GB of corsair vengeance @ 1600mhz(factory set to this).

My problem is that when I go in bios the motherboard is on "auto" setting and says 1333mhz for the ram. I can change it to 1600, 1800+++++ (it goes up to 2600) what I am wondering though is if I change it to 1600 will the ram get damaged? if I go higher what will happen(for example 1800) and Why is auto setting putting the ram at 1333mhz?

please help:D

peace.

Not all mobos catch certain manufacturer's DRAM mhz specs shown on box. This doesnt mean they're aren't compatible though. Enable the XMP option in your bios (if your cpu has the feature) and it will auto clock it to back to 1600mhz mnfctr specs. Had to do the same thing ;) If the XMP feature is already set, then oc it to 1600 and run some benchmarks to see how stable the OC turns out.

xmp is set to auto.. so basically what you are saying is I should manually change my clock speed to 1600? what benchmark tests?:p
