I'm sorry for a question like this, i am a former console player and have been playing on a laptop for a while and about to build my own gaming pc, so i was wondering if i need a radiator and if so what kind is recommended
i recommend closed loop water cooling like corsair hydro series. They have best performance and are much less noisy.
Is there dcent one that does not require water cooling?
radiators a scrictly for water cooling.
A heatsink is what I believe your asking about in which case yes you must have one unless your cpu/gpu comes with one(usually does.)
gaming pc's do not require water.
they all do indeed need some form of heat radiation tho.
everyone on earth should use the coolermaster hyper212 evo as a starting point
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099
it has the best performance per dollar that there is.
hands down. bar none. ive found this cooler for $25 us dollars.
this is of course assuming the computer that you construct is in a case large enough to fit it
generally speaking most mid sized computer cases should handle it.
an air heatsink like this has less points of failure than any water system.
in essence. this hunk of metal will only ever just need a blow with some air to clear dust every now and then,
you will never have to worry about it breaking.
just remember man, ask for help.
NO question, with the intent to actually learn, is a dumb question.
in GENERAL, all computer parts that NEED heat dissipation tend to come with a little crappy stock heatsink. this is the stock intel heatsink for your reference.
the stock heatink will keep your chip from blowing itself up, but honestly not much more than that.
but as you can see, it is very small. and thus will fit in danm near any computers case.
the 212 evo by comparison is like 5 times the size
the legend the noctua nh-d14 is a true monolith in size, and tends to cost nearly $90 us dollars
but its power rivals other $100+ simple all in one water coolers.
you WILL need a large roomy pc case to fit this honker of a heatsink
the more you build and eventually play with computers the more and crazier things you will buy and install just for the hell of it.
its the shiny foil lined pokemon cards fever of the adult nerd lifestyle
again for you
this is an all in one water loop solution
it really is just a radiator, JUST like in a car.
with a fan or 4 on it.
and the water or fluid is pumped in a circle through the whole thing over a metal plate that sticks to the top of the thing you are cooling
You dont realy need watercooling at all, its just more like a hype.
A decent aircooling solution works basicly just as fine, and will save you a bit of money.
Big plus of aircooling, is that its easy straight forward, easy to install, and its more reliable.
if you are looking for some close loop systems still, then Corsair H110GT, CoolerMaster Nepton 280L, NZXT Krakan X60/61, are a few great choices.
Top kek, console/10
Insert all of my kek here:
KuramaKitsune nailed it.
There is a lot of stuff to learn when building your own rig, and you won't learn it all during your first time.
