Radeon strikes again -_-

Ok, so I upgraded from CCC to Crimson, it worked ... But I didn't do a clean install. So after confirming that the drivers worked and whatnot, I decided to clean uninstall and reinstall crimson so I didn't have any residuals left over from CCC.

This is when the shit hit the fan.

At first I took a crack with the new version of DDU that has added support for Crimson Software, and attempted using the OTA detect and install for Crimson. DDU did it's job as usual, rebooted into normal mode, tried to install Crimson ... And the installer bugged out.

Install failed, rebooted back into safe mode. Removed residuals again trying with both amdclean tool and DDU. Ran CCleaner for good measure. Used the offline installer for Crimson.

Installer claims drivers and software both installed correctly, however the Radeon Settings Software is nowhere to be found, I cannot configure my displays, and the installer claims I already have the most recent version of the software and driver installed.

I'm not running any AV, so I don't think it's that. And I had DDU stop windows from forcing graphics drivers on me at boot to make sure that nothing went wrong there either.

At this point I've rebooted and clean installed the drivers and software a good 7-8 times and nothing changes. I have no idea what's going wrong.

TL;DR

Installed Crimson, Radeon software is nowhere to be found. HALP!

what is your card? I think they cut off support for anything not GCN

Gigabyte R9 280 ... It was installed and working before I decided to attempt a clean install of the drivers, thats the part that confuses the shit out of me. I just figured a clean install would behave better than a standing upgrade like I did initially.

That's what I thought :(

From AMD's website which download did you click, The minimal download or the one that says Radeon Software?

At this point I've attempted both and still no luck at getting the Radeon Software to actually install on the system since the initial time I upgraded to it. I've reverted back to Catalyst-15.11.1-beta-Win10-64bit and this seems to work just fine.

The first time I upgraded to Crimson, I just let the AMD detect utility do its thing and it worked. It was when I tried a wipe/clean install that everything went to hell, and nothing I did would make the software install in a way that I could actually access it.

See don't do that. if you upgraded your drivers, you need to find the one FOR your card. in your case the 280. also from what i've seen auto-detect utility has never worked.. at least in my experience. try manually installing your drivers..

The auto install worked initially. It was the manual install that wont work. No matter what I do. When I attempted the clean install, I did do a manual installation. By the book. I know how to install drivers. My point is that since removing Crimson once, and attempting to reinstall it ... Nothing will make the Crimson software appear on my machine, and it wont let me install any of it because it says it worked properly.

And why won't it work? what is it that it does?

The Crimson installer says it was entirely successful, but the software is nowhere to be found. I cannot configure the drivers whatsoever. I have ran the AMD clean uninstall tool numerous times, cleared all files with CCleaner, tried DDU. Done everything in and out of safe mode. Literally nothing works.

I can manage to get the drivers totally removed, but when I try to install Crimson again after that, the Software claims to install correctly, but does not appear in my taskbar or anywhere on my system for me to configure the settings.

did you right click on the desktop like so and does Radeon Settings show up? cause once it's been installed you should be able to right click like you used to like Catalyst Control Center and open it up.

Sure did, doesn't exist. I even went as far as entirely disconnecting from the internet and clearing out all of the system files with disk cleanup to make sure Windows could not force a driver update on me at any point.

There is a problem with the new crimson. Reports of corrupted installs borking display settings may even of taken out my 290x :( Bsod's Boot loops . There seems to be certain drivers that either got removed or corrupted by the new updated. So ya dont update to crimson just yet. I havent fixed any issues to speak. Reininstalled 8.1

Strange. I had no issues with the install.

THOUGH! I must admit, overclocking is somewhat strange now. cause I've applied an overclock for example and if it crashes or black screens my desktop. I have seen that the GPU will continue to load up that same unstable overclock on my system over and over again even after restarting. So i had to remove the GPU from my system. delete the drivers, reinstall it, and the card worked like normal again.

though this could be either AMD's Driver issue and or Sapphire's TRIXX Software.

According to Avast boot scan.......... the drivers are just not installing without getting corrupted.( new and clean installs ) I have tried every which way.

What's funny too is, CrossfireX is not supported yet on this Crimson driver lol

Ya what is funnier? my cf'ed 280's work fine.

you sure? cause AMD has stated Crossfire doesn't work with Crimson yet though I remember reading an article on that.

And you can stop with the comment, I'm using an AMD card right now, I was just making the point.

Not sure if it is cf'ing correctly, but the basic it is plugged up part works. :)

actually I looked it up, the issue is strictly with the R9-285/ R9-380 cards. Crossfire just doesn't work.
