Radeon 7850 Shadows

Hi there, I recently bought the HIS Radeon 7850, plopped it into my machine and it seems to run pertty dang nice.

However I am having a problem with shadows in quite a few games.

As you can see the edges aren't very smooth and are simply very blocky.

Asked around a few places and the closest to an answer I got was simply "max everything in catalyst" which didn't seem to work.

Can supply any more information needed, thanks for even viewing this thread.

Did you try turning on anti-aliasing?

It could also just be the game as well. But agree'd with Vortex. Is AA on?

Yes, I've tried it with the application setting it, and overiding it.

It might just be my CCC is bugged... it was having problems applying things... and the Apply button is always flashing.

Odd.. I have a 7850 (Sapphire brand) and havent had this, or any issues at all for that matter. A lot of older games tend a hard time keeping up with the new series' of graphics card, thus making graphical compatibility a little wonky. It could be that, or your CCC, or a combination.

It is quite odd indeed. It's a HIS brand btw. I didn't have this issue with my 5670 neither, and the game pictured is DotA 2 a game not even released yet. I queried whether or not that it was simply the max shadow (as it is a beta) but many of my friends replied that there's are much smoother.

You might want to try booting into safe mode, getting rid of all of your video drivers with Driver Sweeper (it's a free program that you can download. Just google it.), reboot, and then install the latest drivers for your graphics card. That might help, but no guarantees.

ah good idea, shall do that and report back

Fraid not, after wiping them all the quality is still fairly low for shadows.

Still no idea.
