Rack Server Build

Hi there. I’m a tech for a small motel chain. We host a ton of promo videos that I’m thinking I want to serve via Jellyfin.

This will be my first time building a rack server type build. I usually lease but want to go on prem…

I want this to be long term. So here are my constraints.

Needs to have about 240TB useable space.

From what I gather. TrueNas scale is what I should probably use with ZFS features.

Ideally I would want to use Intel Chips that would take advantage of quicksync, however if more performance comes from AMD that’s fine too.

Ideal scenario is 1U space, But I can go up to 10U - would just save me money. Build should be upgradeable in future with CPU and Space if possible.

NIC should be able to go up to 10Gbps if possible.

Please help me build this out/purchase! There is unlimited budget.

How many people are you simultaneously serving? Intel quick sync can only handle a few streams at a time and you are now limited to consumer desktop CPU’s.

You would be much better off with 1-4 Tesla P4 cards depending on the number of concurrent streams and the quality.
