R9 390X or R9 Fury

I'm getting ready to upgrade my PC. At one point I was going to get a 970 but I just don't feel comfortable supporting NVidia. So I'm going "Team Red". However, I am struggling to make the decision between a R9 390X or R9 Fury. Namely:

However, I am struggling to decide which is better value. I understand that the R9 Fury is the newer and more powerful card, but is it worth the extra money?

I will be using it for a dual 1080p monitor setup for now, hoping to play games at 60 fps or thereabouts at all times. However, next year, once I have finished university, I will be upgrading to a single 4K monitor. I currently prefer two monitors as it enables me to work better, but as of next year the only thing I will be using my computer for is gaming.

Thanks for any help you can give.

OK, here is what i have to say about that...
1. Fury if you can afford it. Why? It is newer architecture, and with every new driver release, there are improvements in performance. 390X is kind of hit not it's maximum, but pretty close.
2. Whatever you do, don't get ASUS. Not with AMD cards anyway. Their cooler is not made for ... cooling. It is made for silence. The freaking fans doesn't even kick in till the GPU hits 60, if i am not mistaken, and at that point the cooling is not that easy... The ASUS has a thermals of around 85C... It's really bad...
3. Price to performance, the pure 390 beats both of those. Pure performance it is the slowest of the three, but the price/performance, 390 is better than both 390X and Fury...
Still, i would go Sapphire Fury ...

I should be able to afford it when it comes to getting it. So what you are saying is that the Fury will be a better investment?

And I never knew that about Asus, I have only heard good things about the Strix on NVidia, I presumed it would be the same on AMD.

I think I will probably go with the Fury, thanks.

R9 390 is 1080p card
R9 Fury is 1440p card

I recently switched myself from two 290's to single Fury and I've had no regrets, It's just awesome to play 1440p FreeSync with one card. Plus I think Fury will have much longer lifespan if you decide to get few coins from it, so there is that too.

Yeah I was thinking of getting a 4K Freesync monitor next year some time. Basically when I've started full time work. I don't mind what resolution I actually run the game at, so long as its 1080p or above.

Thank you for the advice.

DUDE, no... 1440p is just fine on 390. The Fury will outperform it, yes, but 390 can take care of 1440p just fine... I play 1080p fine with 270X...

Yeah... It's the same situation as MSI... MSI are great Intel and Nvidia products... AMD - i just don't have good experience with them... And Asus are going the same way... AMD GPUs - i always always recommend Sapphire first, Gigabyte second, and in my country, Powercolor third, simply because i can get 390X powercolor on the price of 390 any other brand here...

Well, keeping in mind how long they are stretching the 7000 generation GPUs, yeah. I believe Fury have really really long lifespan infront of itself...

Really? Thats interesting, I know that MSI NVidia graphics cards are some if the best, like the Twin Frozr. And I'm fond of Gigabyte, I had a bad experience getting a Gigabyte motherboard.

And I have a 7000 series GPU and I had another driver yesterday I think. Which makes me really happy. Especially after reading that NVidia have all but abandoned the 700 series already.

Really? I had nothing but good experience with any gigabyte product i have been in contact with...

MSI... They had some issues with AMD motherboards before. Same like Asrock. But i have tried Asrock and i own Asrock motherboard now. I haven't stopped getting complaints from MSI products, mainly GPUs actually... The thing is, it could be just a bad batch of products or something, could be just luck, i don't know.

Yeah, I got my last Motherboard from them and they claimed that it had a USB3 header. It didn't and unfortunately I didn't realise until it was too late.

And thats interesting, good job I'm going for Intel this time then.

no lol
