My Asus R9 390 is running at a steady 75 degrees with a few web pages open. It's running on a default fan profile. So, I could use GPU Tweak to turn up the fan speed, but I feel it should really only be running at its normal 60-65 degree idle. But I would rather know than feel.
Should I be worried that my GPU was hacked by a bitcoin miner or something?
By the by, I know you all probably need more info, and that there may already be a topic out there. I'm pressed for time, and need some passive answers. Thanks for your patience.
What cooler is on it. DCU. Also how old is it? Could it be dusty.
Edit sorry missed the PCPartPicker link. The DCU cooler is not known for being wonderful on AMD as it was made for nVidia and just slapped in as a cost saving measure over building a new one.
There is your problem. It is just Asus being bad on AMD cards as it has been on R9 290s. Make sure your case has good airflow arround the card and tweak the fan curve with MSI-Afterburner or something similar.
Is the gpu setup to run quite till it hits a set temp by default. I know some third party manufacturers have started doing that which would make the card look like its running hotter than it should be just because the fans have been defaulted to stay off or supper low till they get above 70-80 degrees.
At that temp the card should be crashing or have artifacts in game. If new rma. Improving case airflow and ramping fans speeds recommended. You should be able to adjust fans speed in Crimson.
It was a humid day, and the normal profile will run at 60 degrees before the fans turn on; but it wasn't a particularly hot day- 75 degrees max. I have a window open, and a fan running.
It could have been a few background processes, not sure though. I have a profile which will keep it in the 30-40 degree range at idle via GPU Tweak, but honestly I need to learn more about Windows and my cards software. It's possible I could have some dated software that is conflicting with AMD's new Radeon Settings Panel- like the old Catalyst Control center. I'm just not sure.
Is your driver are updated? If I remember the 1st version of the Crimson drivers has a bug, if you enable the overdrive the 2nd fan will be stuck at 20% all the time.
