So it has been a week since I started using this VTX3D R9 390 and I must say, so far, this Nvidia user for 13 years is quite happy with the card.
Now I wanna push things a little further with this card...
I am about to order a 3rd monitor for work related stuff as well as for gaming of course, so I am wondering if any of you R9 390 users out there have already tried this card on a triple monitor setup? How is the performance? Any hiccups or something?
I tried out my 290 with 3 monitors once, and it was impeccable. the scaling and performance is almost un-real. AMD has always promoted their GPUs for multi-monitor setups. and there driver support on that end has always been amazing. you won't regret going with a 390 for your multi-monitor setup. it's really that good.
I used to run a 3x1 setup with a couple or R9 290's. In games that support ultra wide resolutions, triple screen gaming is epic, but it becomes kind of a pain when they don't. You should check out http://widescreengamingforum.com/ if you go that route. They have a lot of information on game support and links for a small app that can add support for wide screen gaming if it isn't natively supported in a game. It enables adjustments for FOV and GUI scaling for games that where not originally designed to support wide screen resolutions like Skyrim. They also sell some pretty epic multi-monitor stands.
It might struggle a little in more demanding titles but it would probably by fine if you can run without anti-aliasing. The 8GB of vram will really help at 5760 x 1080 resolution though.
I was going eyefinity, until I tried the 39.9 Korean monitors. I like the immersion of the 40 inch , as well as, it seems less head movement. Since I am a maniac I would go with 3 x 40 (very, very heavy breathing, as well as visual flashes....). Did you game or work on a 40 or 39.9 or whatever ?
I Was thinking about triple monitors or 5 way vertical surround but with the new acer monitors that have 1440, ips, 75hz refresh, ultra wide, and gsync/freesync I am really considering getting one of those.
I would be interested in the 4k @wendell has if it had higher refresh and could sync.
Haven't tried working or gaming on anything larger than 27" lol
I'd love to have bigger screens and multimonitor at that in the future, but for now, I guess I have to stick with a triple 23" 1080p monitors hehehe gotta give time for my wallet to recuperate =p
Just want to update you guys that I just bought my 3rd IPS monitor today and started testing the R9 390 on 5760x1080 Eyefinity in Valley Benchmark:
Medium Settings:
High Settings:
Ultra Settings:
I didn't use the Extreme or Extreme HD presets for I know it won't be able to handle it... My preset was set to:
Now these results are obviously not the highest ever out there, of course, higher tier card will be better, but I am happy with the results nonetheless. For a single card solution at that price point, the R9 390 truly left this Nvidia user of 13 years at awe.
I wouldn't mind playing 5760x1080 even if it meant that I turn down some graphic settings a notch or two in some games.
With that, I would like to thank you guys here in this thread for giving me advice and encouragement to go through with the 3rd monitor =]
