Hay Tek Syndicate Team, i was wondering if you guy's think AMD would release a R9 290XT in the near future to clash with the GTX 780Ti ? Whats your opinion on this matter ?
nope, AMD will just bring out their new chips out next year or so is my guess, maybe 390x? but i dont think they will make a 290xt, thats mostly Nvidea adding a bit more performance to top AMD by like 2% to 5 % more and just keep that competition going, sadly for me as an AMD fan, Nvidea has control of the market on GPU's, they have great GPU's but just bring out little bits at a time to not kill off competition like AMD.
The 290x on a reference cooler isn't much to consider. The 780 beats it after overclocking, and the 290x throttles after extended gameplay. Wait until the third party coolers are launched, which will clash with the 780ti's release. Or fit the 290x with a waterblock. Then it will be a whole different card. Plus drivers might increase the performance of the R9. Wouldn't necessarily require an XT version.
What about a Dual-GPU card using the r9-290 (as often the dual gpu cards are down-clocked versions of their best GPUs anyway) for like 800-900USD, to 'compete' with the titan, just because they can and just because it is only slightly more silly than the titan :P
The reference design could feature a water block and the box could say 'serious cards, for serious gamers', and the card could be codenamed 'jack' as in jack and the beanstalk, giant killer. Giant as in the titan :D. They could even make it 'limited edition' like the titan.
Actually I would like to see high-end cards start coming with hybrid air/water cooling blocks (or single slot water cooled) (of course nvidia excluded since they voltage lock everything down) and back-plates for extra OC room.
I hope that AMD won't stoop down to Nvidia's childish tactics. Think about it like this, if they barely one up eachother we aren't going to get a real change in hardware. It's silly to see Nvidia shake in there boots because AMD's new card is pretty amazing for the Price. It beats the 780 by price. Just because it's 5% slower doesn't mean it's worse.
Just because it's 5% slower doesn't mean it's worse.
Well that depends on if you mean worse performing, or worse value for money?
Thing would be a fire hazard.
We need to see more coolers like the ones included with the Aries. A small, closed loop water cooler.
I agree but would like to see them come without the radiator allowing people to save money by reusing their existing radiators and would also like to see single slot cards come back.
That's called a waterblock. Lol. Which are being sold for pretty much any reference card. If you already have a watercooling loop, youll just buy a block and add it in.
And cards are only dual slot because of the cooler. get the right waterblock and it will be.
Well in benchmarks of games right now its BARELY slower than the 780. But it doesn't matter because it's cheaper.
In some countries, it is not. But in most, it is.
