R9 290X in a Micro-ATX or -ITX case?

Hello everybody,

I want to build a powerful PC, but at the same time the smallest case/tower, which is possible. And as another premise preferably inexpensive. I imagined a mark around 1000-1500 €, and I also want to invest pretty much the half of this into the graphics card R9 290X. That means that all other components have to be of good quality and performance requirements, but also cheap.

At the end I want to say, that this is a question of possibilty. I want to see, if it's possible, to build such a small gaming package.

Thanks in advance and best regards!

sure can, check out the evga hardon case.

The reference 290x is probably your best bet also as it is a blower design cooler and pushes the heat out of the case.

290x, I'd get a custom loop if you don't want a hand held leaf blower

the fractal node 304 that we reviewed will let you use a huuuuuuge power supply and fits huuuuuuuuge cards. Not 100% sure if it'll fit in there but that might be worth a look.

The 290x will not fit in to the 'hardon' the card is 11" the case will only fit cards upto 10.5" anless you feel like moding the case by sliceing some of the case lip off.

Allso it comes with a 500w psu and that will realy be cuting it close.

aww, my bad. maybe im thinking of the

Cooler Master Elite 130

Ok guys, situations has changed slightly: I'm using a somehow old tower (meaning I have already taken advantage of the maximum airflow through the few openings), in which I fit a Powercolor R9 290 and a MSI R9 290X in CrossFire - no problem here. But unfortunately my prefered CPU cooler (Scythe Grand Kama Cross 2) generates vibrations, so I had to downgrade to the stock cooler from Intel again (using the i7- 4790K). So I'm looking for a new one, which should be as quietly as possible, but at the same time - of course - powerful enough to cool the CPU (I reached 100°C with the stock cooler while gaming and stuff according to MSI Afterburner).

The second challenge is the new PC for my sister. My build imagination looks like this:

  • GigaByte GA-Z170N-WIFI
  • Intel Core i7-6700K
  • AMD Fury X (didn't decide yet, which brand)
  • Samsung SM951 512GB M.2
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB Kit DDR4-3300 CL16
  • SilverStone Fortress SST-FTZ01B
  • Silverstone SX700-LPT (if it will be released soon - otherwise: Silverstone SST-SX600-G)

The question again is: which CPU cooler would you recommend (same premises like above, but additionally it shouln't be taller than 83mm (case limitation)?

Thanks again!

is an aio not an option?
Or something like this.

Noctua NH-L9 low profile cooler.

Yeah grab an H80i or H100i, and a Fury Nano . Should be quiet and fit in just about anything.

Well, you didn't really read my post, did you? There is no chance to add another fan or radiator, that blows on the case outside, since there already fans there - also even 120mm radiators would be too big for the space, that left in my case.

It's the same issue with my sister's future case (I repeat: it's a FTZ01 from Silverstone. Do you think a Fury X won't fit in it, if I place the radiator right in one line with the GPU? Has anybody experiences with that? Yes, I know the issue with the noise, that some examples of the Fury X generates. Also, the R9 Nano isn't available as well and it will cost as much as the Fury X do.

Are there any experiences with the Noctua cooler? I also found a Zalman CNPS8000B and an Alpenföhn Silvretta (about that one: they only specify the IDLE sound emission, not that one under load).

This is the build I was planning for a mobile console murderer and modeling rig: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2gmCXL

Just under $1800 USD so I think that should be around 1500 Euros, the Corsair 380T will definitely hold a 290X but I would go for a 390 (non-X) instead..
