R9 290x Black Screen Prevents Windows from Booting

Hi this is my first post in the forums I usually do not post on any forum but I desperately need help and trust this community more than just about any other. For nearly 2 months I have owned an MSI reference 290x. This one here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-222-MS&groupid=701&catid=56

I have had no issues with the card other than some minor FPS issues with mantle in BF4 which was remedied by re-installing the non beta driver. As of yesterday (6th of March) I have been experiencing issues

Windows will not boot If I have any AMD driver installed I will get a black screen after the starting windows splash screen.

If I boot into safe mode and uninstall the driver using driver sweeper the computer boots fine.

I have read that some cards using Elpida memory have issues with black screens mines has Hynix chips.

I have tried four different drivers 13.12 13.11 beta and 14.2 beta as well as whatever came on the disk with the card

The problem started after I Installed the Xigmatek Dark Knight cooler on my CPU although this cant be the issue as my CPU now idles at 9-11 degrees and most non graphic intensive software works

The problem has been persistent through several system restore and 2 full re-installations of windows.

The system Boots just fine when the driver is installed and I'm using the integrated HD4600 with the 290x removed

I have no other GPU to try on the system.

My specs are the main rig on my profile

As far as I am aware although i could be wrong I cannot return the card to overclockers uk for a replacement as I have voided MSI's warranty by removing the stock cooler

Thanks for any help you give in advance and if you have any questions or need to know something I've left out Just ask

Have you tried using all of the physical output options?

If you have no other troubleshooting options, can you put the stock cooler back on? It would be worth it to try to get the warranty.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried Using both DVI connectors as that is the only input my monitor supports.

As for the stock cooler yes I have kept it in good condition only problem is that there was an MSI sticker that said "warranty void if removed" on one of the screws on the back of the GPU obviously the sticker is broken now so i would think the warranty is void.

I think I'll wait a while longer and see if anyone else can give some input before taking action.

UPDATE I've decided to try to return the card and get a new one I will give updates as soon as i can

Sorry this took so damn long but I thought I would give an update. The card was sent back and after much arguing with the retailer I got a full refund and purchased an ASUS Direct CU II 290X instead. I have been happy with my ASUS card for nearly a week now. Sorry again for the slow update

I haven't been very active on the forums lately, so I just saw this. I'm glad you got it worked out!
