I mean seriously, what the hell? Is this STILL the SCRYPT miners buying these things up?
If so, these miners are destroying the market for the high end AMD cards. They are buying up all the stock and removing AMD's pinch against nVidia. It is sad to think that it is now more practical to buy the already overpriced GTX 780 Ti than to buy a 290X.
look at it this way, when and if the whole crypto coin mining blows over there will be a flood of used high end graphics cards on the market, quad crossfire setups for everybody!
Used, slightly/moderately damaged GPUs. I used to mine Bitcoin and basically all the cards I mined with are toast or very close to toast. Sustained mining really takes a toll on the hardware.
nVidia may not actually gain a whole lot from this. The majority of gamers are in the $100 - $250 market, and AMD still has plenty of options there. The enthusiast market is all screwed up for sure, and nVidia may be making more sales in that arena due to the price hikes.
You are half right on that. The GTX 780 Ti, despite being horrendously overpriced itself, is still the second best value at the ultra high-end, right behind its little brother the GTX 780.
The prices keep rising, which I assume mean the hikes aren't slowing down purchase. Retailers sure are making some money from this it seems. I hope AMD is getting some serious cash from this. Maybe AMD has contributed to the hikes?
AMD is known have excellent performance for the money if you are on a budget. (the Budget guys) now cause of the Crypto-Currency Mining Nvidia and AMD have switched places. where now Nvidias cards are cheaper with excellent performance and AMD with Excellent performance but with insane prices. I can't imagine if Nvidia's cards were good for mining. shit it would be a war and a extreme pain to get ahold of a gaming GPU. people that are on a budget might look at Nvidia for options cause the AMD cards aren't cheap anymore for now.
I'm glad i got ahold of an R9-270x for my build before the prices skyrocketed. i could probably sell it and get the money i spent back cause of this.
agreed however. it does fit the case at least now cause of the crypto-currency. some of the Nvidia cards actually cost a tiny bit cheaper than the AMD cards.
I also doubt it. I am pretty sure it is all (or most all of it) happening at the retailer side of the supply chain and that amd is still getting more or less the same amount per chip.
