R9 290x 95C when gaming

When playing reasonably graphically demanding games, I get a solid 95 degrees Celcius constantly. Even though my case has good airflow and the fans on the MSI R9 290X are going 100%. Is this normal and how would I fix this?

Cheers.

wow that's high even for AMD cards.
hows is the card positioned? Is like an ITX case where the fans may be pushing air into the side of the case or something to that effect.

considering they were designed to run at 95C, its fine

nope, stock coolers run that hot, not after market

maybe try new thermal paste

yep, designed to run that hot, if you want it cooler adjust the fan profile to be more aggressive.

May we see an actual setup of your case fans?

Just because you have every fan in your case set to full blast in every available slot does not mean that there is airflow.
If there is far too much pressure going into the case but not getting out, it will lead to turbulent air within the case, circulating the hot air and having it go nowhere, try to run your case fans slower if you have not already.

could you take a shot of your system guts and we'll see what may be going on? R9 290 cards are meant to run hot but dam.

It's placed in a Fractal Define R5, 2 front intake fans, 1 side intake fans. 1 top exhaust, and 1 rear exhaust.

My fans are running at 100% as soon as it hits 75degreesC. :/ May have to say bye bye to AMD.

It's just within a Fractal Define R5, nothing blocking the airflow, good cable management etc.

ok that makes sense now. That intake side fan is pushing the hot air back into your gpu since the hot air comes out the side of the card. so that fan on the side is pushing the air that supposed to come out of the gpu back in. try flipping that side fan and see what happens.
or just get rid of it

Wait.... I just opened my PC and it turns out 3 of my 5 case fans aren't working, and they're all the same type (fractal design silent fans). The ones that aren't working are placed: Side fan, top fan, and front fan.

Hmm.

well theres your problem. The thing with non blower cards is that the card doesnt do anything other than put heat into your case where as the blowers push it out.

Ok, I've setup all of the fans properly and they now work, but I still get around 94 degrees Celcius constantly after a while.

What's up? :/

get rid of the side fan?

again is this reference card?

yes? no?

Sorry, no it isn't

this one?

MSI R9

honestly the card is supposed to run that hot but ive seen people get it to 75C

Yup

for non-ref cards ~75'C at full load is standard.

@TheCoryphaeus if this card is still on warranty RMA asap. If not take off the cooling and reapply thermal compound as it was stated above - also remove plastic cover to expose the fins. You may want to change fans used too... also check your fan profile in msi afterburner. Don't let catalyst or crimson manage your fan...

-- this is one of the worst non-ref models of the card. The design is simply stupid. As fans will blow hot air down on your mobo and over the card. Not outside. You may consider getting better cooling for it.
