I'd almost get it, but I really wanna wait for polaris....might be worth it for crossfire or something though if one already has the power supply, anyways just throwing it out there
Not worth it. It's reference, and it's stock components won't be enough to push the core even under custom cooler anyway.
reference.... shudders
Had a reference 290X that happily ran at 1070MHz and could bench at 1172MHz. Mind you it was run under water, but the reference design is decent enough for Hawaii to run well.
I have an R9 290x myself that I OC'd to 1130ghz core/ 1500ghz mem but in a hybrid setup, honestly, the TDP aint worth it. My room would feel like a sauna in less than an hour of gaming. I'd sweat, and my skin would get greasy like bacon, and I get agitated which affected my mental stated in the game. Not pleasant at all. I've gone back to my Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II (flashed with DirectCU II TOP bios) and it's a world of a difference.
give me that 179 and i'll give you non-ref 290x.
yeye dem GHz's, well i think we know where the global warming is coming from.
Lightning?
custom card and custom cooler FTW. i have the sapphire tri-x OC R9 290 flashed to a 290x and i push the shit out of it. 1162ghz core just under 1600ghz memory. i dont think you would be able to get close to that on a reference card.(need to test stock bios max OC flashed it and never looked back when i got it.)
I may be bothering you for this soon.
not LE, got another gigabyte from a friend from work he sold it to me for $50 (i've tested and its fully operational)
Hot damn.
Have a reference 770. Can't even hear it next to the AMD sock cooler.
actually the picture might just be in error "SAPPHIRE Tri-X Cooling Technology"
but fuck, it sold out, the wait for polaris continues
Similarly, if you go to Visiontek's website, they are selling their Cryovenom R9 290, and the 240 watercooling kits, for fairly good deals.
A decently binned R9 290 with a waterblock for $170 is a pretty good deal, especially if you already have a watercooling set-up.
