R7 1700/Asus Crosshair Hero problems

I bought Ryzen 7 1700 and Asus Crosshair Hero board a few days ago I installed Windows 10 via USB everything went fine except I had to convert the SSD I was using from GBT to MBR.

Anyways I went into the bios and dialled in a modest 3.7ghz 1.3v and set ram to 2666mhz I then rebooted ran Cinebench like 10x times no issues I then took the GTX780 out that I was using to test and installed my Titan x. I then attempted to install my Kraken x62 I don’t have AM4 bracket but I do have an AM3 backplate and since I have an Asus Crosshair board that is compatible I installed it.

Here’s where I made a Boo Boo while I was taking off the AMD stock cooler the processor was stuck to the heatsink I tried removing it that’s when it popped off and fell on my case from what I could see no pins were bent I then reseated it and installed my X62.

When installing the new backplate and mounting screws I noticed that even when tightened they were lose? But when I installed the block and tightened it was ok (Finicky bloody thing) I then pressed power no boot the lights were on but no one was home.

I then took the x62 out and put the AMD cooler back on it still wouldn’t boot but this time Q Code 0d so I tested each stick of ram in each slot and found the two right slots didn’t work my ram was fine. I then removed the modules from the defective slots and booted into bios I updated the bios from 1002 to 1501 via the online update feature it was successful but it did absolutely nothing.

The system runs but right side ram slots are dead? I haven’t even tried overclocking again also why the hell doesn’t my Kraken x62 fit???

System specs:

-Ryzen 1700
-Asus Crosshair Hero
-16gb 2666mhz Corsair Vengeance LED
-Titan x
-EVGA 750w SN
-Samsung 850 256gb
-Seagate 3tb HDD

I would appreciate some help

It certainly sounds like something died after you dropped it.
Either on the board socket(from yanking it out) or on the CPU.

As for getting the cooler off from PGA CPU’s:

  1. Never lift vertically.
  2. Twist cooler until loose
  3. Slide off sideways

Brought to you from the lost art of the Socket 478 CPU Manual

There isn’t much help we can give here other than what you’ve already done.

Probably open a ticket with Asus/AMD and get ready to replace something.

Thanks.

I was just tired at the time I own an FX9370 so I should know better but if a pin was bent on the chip the system wouldn’t even post would it? Never bent a pin before. It boots into Windows and runs its just the ram slots.

I’m taking the board and processor back to where I bought it from I might just grab a 7700k and z270 board as exchange because the AM4 platform is a bit finicky right now.

My best guess is that something for the RAM channel in the socket wiper contacts got bent.
Try opening up the socket remove the CPU and open and close the socket a few times and look in there to see if all the socket contacts are in order.

Other than that, It’s your build man.
You’re free to buy and do as you wish

I just wanted to see if any body else was having this issue because there isn’t much info on Q code 0d online I was hoping for a workaround from someone who had similar issues so I didn’t have to RMA, thanks for the advice:slight_smile:
