So I might have the chance to get a 970 for really cheap , and would like to know which one is quietes ? Reviews seem to be everywhere , because none of them seem to have tested them all .
What I have found from quietest :
Zotac omega / MSI
ASUS / zotac amp
Gigabyte / EVGA
Stock
Other random ones, I can't find reviews for the inno 3D or some others .
So , do you have a 970 ? witch one is the quietest ? I'm really considering the 970 omega ...
BTW the reason this is interesting is the prices too , the zotac falls in as the cheapest .
I read a review of 11 GTX 970s in which the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4 came out as the quietest and also one the strongest.
Yeah , that seems to be agreed upon , and it seems to also not have the coil / vrm noise that other have .
But it is the second most expensive after the ASUS , putting it almost 1/6 more than the ZOTAC at normal prices .

After listening , my favorites are the 970 extreme and the MSI/ASUS
The Asus strix shuts off the fans when in light use. The 970 has a low TDP and run's a lot cooler. So even at full load fans should not need to whirl up that much. If you really like to overclock a lot that may be a different story.
The Gigabyte wind force has always been a super quiet card. Fans don't shut down when at idle. So its always making some small amount of noise. How ever at full load the wind force is more likely to be more quit at full load than the strix.
If it where me I would go with the strix myself. When I am gaming I don't really notice the fans
The problem with the windforce is the 3 fans are a lot noisier than 2 bigger ones , this is true for both my 670 windforce 3D ( ~same tdp , and was noisy ) and 290 trix ( 3fans and noisy under load ) so a 3 fan design , especially with 3 thin small fans is a no-no for noise .
But I don't only game , witch is why silence under load is important .
I haven't heard any other 970 in person aside from my Strix GTX970, but its super quiet. The case fans on the lowest speed on a Fractal Arc Midi R2 drown out that card so much that I can't actually tell if the fans are running or not on it. Even during benchmarks I still can't hear any noticeable increase in sound, my machine is still dead silent.
Something I wanted to know , have you tried OC yet ?
And undervolting ? I would probably under volt it a bit to get lower heat , so do you think that is possible ?
