Quick RAM Question

Hi,
Short question. Probably asked 1000 times but i'm lazy.
I want to add more RAM. I want to go from 16 to 32 GB.
Because RAM-Disk and VM and stuff... also Gaming. Ah who am i kidding. Not for Gaming.

Currently 2 x 8 GB DDR3 Hyper X Beast 1866MHz, CL10 (KHX18C10AT3K2/16X)
Cant buy exactly the same again. CPU Cooler to big. Hangs over Slot 1.
So i need Ram with lower profile. Is that possible? Do they need to be 100% the same?
I was thinking about the HyperX FURY DDR3-1866, CL10 (HX318C10FB/8)

Mainboard: GA-Z77x-D3H
CPU: i7-3770k

yes, you can mix them; timings should be same tho @ 1866; else you may have some problems (doesn't mean it won't work, but it may be dodgy)

When you do install your new memory run "mem test 86".

It's a risk. I've seen computers running fine with a mix match of brands, size & speed and I've seen problems with mixing nearly identical sticks. See if you can dig into the details of the RAM, if the only thing different is the size of the heat spreader then you won't have any problems.

If you really want maximum compatibility you could buy another set of the same RAM and pop the heatsink off one stick with a plastic spudger or some fishing line or something. The heatsinks are typically held in place with thermal pads, so cut those and the heatsinks should pop right off. RAM doesn't really need heatsinks anyways.

Goodbye warranty with that method though
