Quick question about static

So im going to be building another pc tonight, but alot of buddys keep telling me to wait for my anti static wrist band in the mail.. I really dont wanna wait that long so, i heard in a linus video. if you plug your psu in the wall and dont turn it on, and just touch it every few minutes youre alright, so do i plug it in before its in the case, or should it be the first thing i put into my case, thank you guys so much for any help?

The correct answer is wait for your static wrist band and use all safety measures to ensure you are grounded.

However I, and may of builders of their own pc, instead install the power supply first, then plug it in but not turn it on and touch the case from time to time to ensure grounding. I am not telling you to do this, I am just saying I have and was fine.

Also knowing how electricity works, why plugging in your power supply grounds the case, how static electricity is created and how to minimize it will come in handy.

ya the correct way is ground yourself blababa

however i have been messing with computers sense i was 8 (I'm 18 now)and have never had a problem.

i have put running motherboards on my carpet before and nothing i have intentionally tried to kill computers with static  and nothing happened

the thing is though if you have money invested in building this computer you need to be careful regardless

when i build and repair things i use a glass desk however so it all depends on how itchy you are to build and how much your willing to gamble

Just be smart about what and where your doing it. If you got a place that has an area without carpet that would be a good place to do it. If you doing it in a carpeted area just wear your shoes. Ground yourself if you get up and move around. In my opinion the anti static straps are for "Official Commercial" use, and I was just fine working on my computer in my room and grounding my self whenever I'd leave the room. But yeah its your parts so go about it however you want. Just think logically. And have FUN!

okay, so ive ordered a wrist band, but what should i clip the alligator clips on? i heard i should put it on the psu while its plugged in but turned off... so im just trying to make this easy as possible for me, so Step one put psu in case first, second clip band onto psu while its on... build away..? also another question, my case (200r) has some standoff screws already in it.. will need to move them about for my mobo, or are they compatible for every mobo already, also on the case, in the very middle there is a little nub that is not a standoff screw.. what is it? thanks

Somebody doesn't watch inbox.exe..

if you're not careful the static discharge can travel though the house making everyone poop their pants in a 1 mile radius.

correct =p I got too much to do other than sit for 30-50 mins, wish i could though.

would it be easier to just clip it too the case with out the psu in or plugged?
