I recently Upgraded my Gtx 950 to a R9 390x, thinking about returning it and stepping up to the R9 Fury. I have a Thermaltake 500w 80+b powersupply. Stupid question I know, but should I step up the psu to something rated higher?
yeah I'd grab a 650w.
The 390x is capable of pulling more than 400W, which leaves a measly 100W for the rest of the system, which is cutting it pretty close. It probably won't overdraw during regular use, but personally I wouldn't risk it. Sometimes you want to benchmark the CPU and GPU at the same time, which would put the draw right around the 500w mark.
