some flickering, getting new cables anyway - just checking I understand things correctly
Other Notes:
See my review of the KVM on the forum here:
Very happy with it. I’ve had some flickering since I switched to 4k/60 but nothing too bad.
Now I have to rearrange my home office (my outside office is going away, and a couple physical issues came up I have to adjust for). So I’ll be pushing the physical length limits on my cables (which I got from L1 at kvm purchase).
So I believe it’s time to pay the Fibber tax and switch to fiber optic for my DP cables
Am I correct in assuming that the fiber optic effectively has 0 length, so a 10ft or 50ft cable doesn’t matter? Cause that would let me use the L1 cables to the kvm and the fibber to the monitors.
Now to figure out what to do with my 3rd monitor…sigh…it’s only 1440/60 but it’s a beast
Correct fiber optic should be lossless in any length. If you do have any issues, some people have had better luck with 1 leg of the connection being copper and the other leg being fiber optic
I.e. pc → copper cable → kvm → fiber optic → monitor
Flickering at 4k 60hz is DP 1.2, I am sus of the cables for sure haha
Interestingly the store page updated since last week. They may be haunting the forum….
Here’s a link to the cables I bought (I got the 16ft - so tempting to get longer… )
Anyway, some of the options they had are now gone - there was about 4 more, and 2 of the remaining options are now listed as “unavailable”. And if you’ll notice the links on their page all now just pre-select the length of cable.
Interestingly, the 65ft cable is not listed as “fiber optic”. Instead it’s listed as “DisplayPort”. I’m guessing a typo? But it was that way on several of the other sizes too last week.
Either way, they should be here by Tues. So Sat/Sun I’ll be rebuilding my home office
Weird yes I can confirm those are not fiber optic. Fiber optic cables will have a “source” and “display” end. They’re not bidirectional. If they lack this they are definitely not fiber optic.
Going off @Level1_Amber ‘s suggestion I’ve been using copper cables - the ones I originally purchased with the kvm from L1 from the to the KVM, then fibbr to the monitors.
I’ve tested with both the 6ft and 4ft (copper) cables and all seems to be well.
Obviously if things change I’ll update.
Thanks for the assis @Level1_Amber . I appreciate it.
