I’ve got my main system at one end of the house and my wife’s office at the other. What I want to do is run HDMI and USB cable to her so that she’s able to operate a VM from her desk. The idea of getting a thin client does not appeal to me in any way.
What appears to be the best option for connecting a monitor and mouse/keyboard from over 100 feet away is getting a KVM extender transmitter and receiver set and running cat6 cable in between but it seems these devices often compress the video signal. Some of them are advertised as “HDbaseT” which is a lossless standard so my question is do ALL KVM extenders compress video or only SOME?
Also if you have experience using KVM extenders of any type I’d like to ask if you’ve ever had any issues with them, what those issues were and if latency was at any point an annoyance?
