I remember in a video possibly a while back that Wendell said when he gets new harddrives he puts them through hell in terms of rigorous testing to make sure they dont fail straight up. My question is what program or process did he say he used?

But I could imagine that one program could be "smartctl". There are several programs like this which are based upon the S.M.A.R.Technology (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) which is implemented in harddrives.
