Sorry if this is the wrong topic! I bought a 4 PC 2 monitor DP1.4 KVM from Level1Techs (I’d include the link but it won’t let me). I only recently set up everything and while I am beyond the return period, I wanted to clarify a few things while I wait for cables to arrive.
I plan to connect 3 systems to this:
A custom gaming PC with the 2 connections being to an RTX 4090 - DP to DP cables
A personal laptop - HP Spectre x360 15t-eb100 - DP to TB cables
A work M1 MacBook Pro - DP to TB cables
Potentially a Mac mini in the future which I am guessing will also use DP to TB cables
My 2 monitors are an Asus PG32UQX and Dell G3223Q. Any concerns over this setup? Or does the KVM handle all this fine?
(also any rec on DP to TB cables? couldn’t find on the recommended Club3D website)
The only thing I would caution about is your cabling. You’re going to want very nice cables for everything to work at 4K with a high refresh rate. I highly recommend you use Moshi USB-C → DisplayPort for the Macs, & Fibbr DisplayPort 1.4 → DisplayPort 1.4 for the gaming PC input and dual monitor outputs.
The reason is, the longer your copper cables are, the more the signal will degrade. Even if it is a length that would normally be fine, such a high bandwidth will need the shortest copper cables possible. FIBBR being fiber optic will not suffer from the signal degradation. That’s very important for these large KVMs.
Hi I’m sorry I didn’t see your reply. Hmm…I’ve never been asked that, and there is definitely some circuitry magic going on for the cable to work how it does, but I don’t think it’s fiberoptic.
