I have never built a PC before and thought that using the set-up recommended in the video would be the best way to go. I live in the UK and so was checking the prices here and found that the graphics card recommended in the video, the Asus AMD Radeon HD 7970, costs £317 here which is way more expensive than the MSI GeForce GTX 760 Twin Frozr which only costs £199 despite having similar benchmarks.
That can't possible be the case, those benchmarks are wrong, not to mention that in the case of Skyrim you will probably use high res texture packs to make it playable where the 3gb of ram from the 7970 comes in handy.
"should be lower on the GTX 760 or higher on the Radeon HD 7970?"
This means the exactly same thing...but I get what you tried to ask. If that was not clear, the 7970 should perform better modded or not and the extra ram should come in handy in a modded version of skyrim against a 2gb 760. Putting this game aside, logan did some benchmarks on a 760 and I got better results on the game Bioshock Infinite (the only one I compared) with my 7950.
Skyrim favors nvidia cards and allways has as for perfomance between the 2 cards a HD7970 or a R9 280x destroys the 760 i dont know where you are looking for a HD7970/R9 280X but here are some a hell of a lot cheaper than that.
MSI Radeon R9 280X £225 http://bit.ly/1gMUQlO
Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum £240 (with 3 games) http://bit.ly/1chFrYH
