Question about system drivers

Hi everyone. I need a little help with setting up my system drivers. I am running windows 7 home, mobo ASUS M5A 97Rev2, Phenom II 965, XFX 7870 Double D card. Now after installing windows 7, Logan and others mention not using the included mobo cd when setting up drivers. Went to ASUS website and downloaded all the drivers, and have installed almost all of them. My question is,  the "AMD chipset drivers" from the ASUS website, are they the same as the AMD Catalyst Display Driver 12.1 that I downloaded from the AMD website? Do I need to first install the chipset drivers and then the catalyst display driver?

Thanks for your help.

the drivers from the asus site are for the cpu. the catayst drivers are for your gpu. the order you install them in dosent matter. The reason for not installing stuff from the cd is that they arnt the most up to date drivers, thats why you go to the websites because theirs are up to date. the only driver you made need from the cd is the network adaptor if you cant get on the internet.

to see all the other drivers you need simply type device manager into your search bar and anything with a yellow mark by it dosent have the proper driver. Then you just go to the internet and find it, i.e. if you missing a sound card driver, you would go to the asus site and download the sound driver for your motherboard.

Hi LonewolfTech. Yes I realize the cd drivers are outdated. My question is, when I activated the setup file for the AMD chipset drivers from asus website, the panel that came up said "amd catalyst install manager version 8". So that is why I am wondering if the this is the same as the AMD Catalyst display driver v12

It seems iffy to me. If you can install everything else but that, go ahead and do so. Thats probalbly the driver for the onboard graphics. So if you can, dont install it and go grab the correct version for your gpu from the amd site.

sorry for the confussion
