Hello. Seen Logans Tek videos, and he has said several times that there are many hardware people on this forum. So hope someone can answer my probably easy question.
My computer specs are:
AMD phenom II 965 Black edition. Stock Frequency,
gfx: HD4850x2
Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX.
RAM: 6 gB PC3-12800.
So my question Is: Why cant I play BF3 on medium with my stoneage 1280x1024 resolution? Are my components too Old or is that the Driver developers have stopped optimizing old components to new games?
Thanks.
your GPU is simply too weak, there have be gennerations of GPUs that have been released since that card
Thanks:) guess I have to upgrade then:/
You might be able to, might need to do some overclocking
If you overclcock and follow these instructions you should be able to get it playable at pretty good framerates.
Firstly BF3's graphics actually look pretty good on Low, I play it on low even when I had my 7970 because I have a 120hz monitor.
Textures and Terrain Decoration should be ok for Medium or High
Put Mesh, Shadows, Effects and Terrain to Low
Dont use msaa, if you want to reduce jaggies, put post AA to Low
Lastly, follow these instructions, these edit the game registry/settings to further lower certain settings in BF3 for old GPU's just like yours, it doesn effect graphics much but you should actually get pretty good performance.
"go to where bf3.exe is located, create a text file, rename and change the extension to user.cfg, type any commands you want, here are mine for optimized game:
WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 256
RenderDevice.TrippleBufferingEnable 0
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1
WorldRender.FxaaEnable 0
WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0
RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 0
Render.PerfOverlayEnable 0
PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 0
This disables DX 11 and does a few other things.
Now every time you play once you start the game and its loaded/is loading up, hit the windows button and in the bottom right corner exit origin, this will free up CPU 'space'
Oh yeh and make sure you disable windows Aero and right click on your BF3.exe go to properties and Compatability then tick Disable visual themes and Disable desktop composition
Thanks alot. I will try that out and see what happens:) But my Cpu is not bottlenecking anything right? Would this Cpu be sufficient today with the new 7000 series or even the hd 6990?
u should be good. might want to bring ur CPU up to 4Ghz just to be safe
250 base clock x 14, lower HT to 9 or 8 what ever is stable then CPU NB of 10, give a gennerous bump of voltage to the CPU try 1.4675 then work your way down, bump up the CPU-NB voltage by 1 one bump (the next higher value) if you aren't stable then you might need to pump more voltage on the cpu, keep it under 1.5 if you have a C2 revision you'll be lucky to get past 3.6Ghz
oh and lower your ram multi by one
