Quality board?

I was wondering if the Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P motherboard is any good for my build.  I'm not really sure what a more expensive motherboard does for you so if someone can explain it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

well its not the type of board that i would personaly recommend for a powerhungry FX 8 core chip.  This board ha only a 4+1 powerphase, and nog the best quality of vrm´s.Also im personaly not a big fan of gigabyte am3+ boards at all, some are well known about issues, with a crappy bios, overheating vrms mosfets etc..

I would recommend to look at a 990FX chipsetboard, like Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 this board has a decent 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm. this board will be much more suitable, and stable for a powerhungry 8 core.

Grtz Angel ☺

I recommend the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Rev. 4. This board has a 8+2  powerphase and is cheaper than the Asus mentioned above.

Is it just because of the 8320 because I'm still trying to decide between that and the 6300.

I think it's worth the extra money for the 8320 considering the 6300 is $120 and the 8320 is $150

Yea that's what I was thinking, I just see the 6300 get recommended a lot and rarely the 8320.

If you're just gaming you'll only loose about 2-3 fps with the 6300. But I think it's still worth getting the 8320.

As an 8350 owner my self, for some of the latest titles, 8 core multi-threaded support has been amazing. Recent examples are BF4 and Crysis 3 (Maybe thief)? But I'd say spend the extra money and get the 8320.

Yea its just the fact that I'm on a budget and I'm trying to keep it under $750 and with the 8320 and the motherboard I might not be able to do that.

Ok thanks and the gigabyte and asus boards both handle it well?

Yes, they will both work fine. I've used both Asus and Gigabyte mobos, and they both work just fine.

O and I looked at your specs list and you have an after market cooler, do think it's necessary o just a good for overclocking kind of thing.

You don't NEED a after market cooler, especially if you don't plan to overclock. Before I got my Kuhler 620, I had the Hyper 212 EVO. I did not OC with the EVO. Kept it at stock speeds and the CPU would be quite a bit cooler than with the stock cooler, but the stock cooler will work fine if you don't OC.

Yea this is going to be my first build so I probably won't be overclocking for a while.  Thanks for the help I really appreciate it . I think I know what I'll buy now.

If you're not overclocking the stock cooler is actually is pretty good.

Here's the build I'd recommend.

If you're going with a AM3+ system, the only motherboard I can suggest is the 990FX Sabertooth R2.0 from Asus, mainly because it's the only mobo in the AM3+ family that is just as feature filled as the Z77 cousin (and actually cheats the AMD feature sheet) Though its a pricier board, but knowing it's a sabertooth you know you're getting a damn sexy board

Do you know how the 7870 compares to the 270?

Why? The only difference is that it has 2 extra Sata connectors.

The R9 graphics cards are basically extinct. You can find them for hundreds more but it's not worth it. The only difference is power consumption. The 7870 uses a bit more power. You'll lose 2-3 fps at most.
