Hi!
I currently have a 5820K-based desktop that I use as my daily driver for work-related activities (graphic design, video editing, all the creative bits that come with it). It really works like a charm until I start playing games with my Quadro K4000, in which I need to tone down everything for games released after late 2013.
I got a second-hand AMD Radeon R9 290X reference card for dirt-cheap and I am seriously considering plugging it in my rig. I gave up on the idea of running it in tandem due to possible driver conflicts. What I do plan is to make a separate boot drive for the "gaming desktop" which is completely separate from the workstation drive. On that drive I will simply disable the Quadro card on Device Manager, let the Radeon walk through HDMI, and will install Catalyst as usual. I'll just switch to HDMI every time I want to play games and back to Displayport whenever I have to work. The expectation is that the Quadro will not run while in this boot drive and will only run when I switch to the workstation drive.
Will this setup work? I hate to sell the Radeon back and I don't plan on building a separate rig for this as of now.
